Hi ... and welcome :) If you have liked this blog, do remember that I try to keep it as compact as possible and that I frequently change the older pages around while also adding new items there. So if there is nothing new at the top of page one today, this does not mean that there is nothing new inside. In fact, during your next visit there may be a lot inside that you have not yet seen, read or heard. Find out if you are so inclined. And if you liked what you saw, read or heard and want to come here again to see what has been added, don't hesitate to hit the "friend" button ... if you want to be able to find me again and the new stuff I may have entered :)

This is NOT, as YouTube mentions, Rachmaninoffs 3rd piano orchestra. Rather it is the 3rd movement of the 2nd piano concerto. Anyway, those are just names. And even if the name Mehta ... the conductor ... is not insignificant, the real name here is Horowitz; one of the greatest if not THE greatest pianist ever. Rachmaninoff, incidentally, is said to have written this concerto for Horowitz. Click and enjoy. :)

Your Thoughts?

If, like mine, your in-box is open to everyone, you surely must have received messages from other Stumblers like the message below; a message which I will enter here without mentioning the Stumbler's name:

That was all. Just one line. I am curious how you feel about or respond to receiving stuff like this in your in-box and I wouldn't mind hearing from you how think about and/or react to them.

I unfortunately cannot find much time for Stumbling these days and so I usually cannot spend time on requests like these. Besides, I believe that reviews require spontaneity and should come from the heart. But ... this subject IS something which has to do with Stumbleupon, isn't it? And so I decided to "do" an item on it in a way which might tickle your funny bone.

As for our above transparent friend, I based my response on the knowledge that people learn best when a curriculum is easy and on the hypothesis that awakening and light - which does, after all, shine away darkness - can both be considered as an attack when the darkness surrounding the sleeper is deep, when the curtains are opened too rapidly and when the light comes too quickly and is too strong.

And so, I decided to cut up my response in two easily digestible parts; parts which would gradually as it were cause something to "dawn" on our transparent Stumbler. Here is part one:

A couple of hours later I treated him to the second part:

That was on the 10th of April. I still haven't heard from him ...

Roby07

This is a brief review I wrote some two months ago:

"Quality and quantity combined. Rare. Hard to stop coming back to this site.
The best image I could find here was this one ... :)"

Photobucket

And today I had to read that a mutual friendship ended because Roby's SU account is scheduled for deletion ... :(

Roby was a prominent ... a very prominent member of this community and a good and helpful friend to many. She and her gorgeous pages will be missed. I understand that the deletion was requested by Roby herself.

The Chinese language has a character which, when used in some contexts, can have such meanings as "danger" and "chaos" but, when used in another context, can mean "new possibilities." That is language, but life is like it: many of us believe that they see the world they create, but that is merely one of man's upside-down beliefs.

Truth is the reverse: we create the world we see ... if our vibration makes us "see" chaos, that - chaos - is the reality we will create. I wish Roby the vibration which will make her see the "new possibilities" with which the universe abounds. May all of those new possibilities be as wonderful as she.

People call him "John of God." Every day, people who have been told that they have only weeks to live, fly in for miracle cures. Not "seeing is believing," but "believing is seeing" ... if that makes sense.
No more words: the video tells all.

Giovanni Battista Piranesi (1720-1778)
Piranesi's Dream ... Eternal Modern Design

When reading the Encyclopedia Britannica's content on Giovanni Battista Piranesi, you will read stuff like "also called Giambattista Piranesi, Italian draftsman, printmaker, architect, and art theorist. His large prints depicting the buildings of classical and postclassical Rome and its vicinity contributed considerably to Rome's fame and to the growth of classical archaeology and to the Neoclassical movement in art" etc etc.

Piranesi, however, was much more than that. Regarded as a genius and even being referred to by many as an 18th century Leonardo da Vinci, I am sure that other Stumblers must have entered items on him and perhaps even on the perspective which I find interesting ... his role as a designer.

At present (Feb-May) Teylers Museum in Haarlem, The Netherlands (I won't mention their url because there is no English language in that site) presents "Piranesi's Dream," Eternal modern design, the first museum exhibition in Europe to show Giovanni Battista Piranesi's full range and influence as a designer of architecture, interiors and furnishings. The objects in the above four images are part of that particular perspective.

so intimately that the weight of the latter also enforces the victory of the former.
